On September 10, 2021 I graduated from the Sarasota School of Massage Therapy, and a few days later passed my MBLEX and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Florida.
To say that the past year was a struggle would definitely be an understatement. We were class 300. The insane group of "special" people who decided to sign up and study a hands on career during a pandemic. When I say during a pandemic, what I mean is... the MIDDLE of a pandemic. In fact, I was furloughed from my job in healthcare (as was my husband) the day I chose to "click here for more information", and I had gotten bored with not knowing if I would ever leave the house again. Before I knew it, I had impulsively enrolled for a 13 month night program that started just weeks later. Due to the fact that everything was closed down, our class started on Zoom with 12 students.
One year and one month later, we graduated... with only four of us making it through to the end. I don't know if that was a testament to how difficult the program was at this point in time, or how stubborn the four of us truly are - either way, we made it. There were sleepless nights, crying lunch breaks, borderline psychotic meltdowns, and almost boycotting our own graduation... but my god did we go out with a bang ;) I love these three from the bottom of my heart, and will be forever grateful for the sanity they provided when I was more then a few cards short of a full deck.
Since getting licensed, my classmate and dear friend Sheila and I have decided to join together and open our own massage space. Though we are unique in many ways, our end goal of how we want to bring a healing touch to our clients lives is very much aligned. For weeks we have been searching out the perfect location and vibe to match our vision, and last week we signed a lease in the absolute perfect spot. We will be open for business in Downtown Sarasota starting on 11/15 (if not sooner) on the corner of 1st & Central at Salons by JC.
This location and loft conveys everything we wanted our clients to feel, and we look forward to treating everyone to a delightful hour (or two) of pure relaxation and self care.
